Hi,

I love that I can sync Gmail/Facebook contacts with my phone, altough, I have multiple instances of knowing 2 with the same name. I have 2 gmail contacts with the same name (actually one is Pat Doe and another one is Patty Doe) and I have 2 facebook contacts (Joel Doe) with the same name, with one of these people having a gmail contact. Bonus Question: Also, I have some contacts who use a different name in facebook than their real name (aka Amanda Doe vs Mandi Doe)

I'd like to know how to:

-Issue One: separate the 2 gmail contacts into unique contacts. Gmail does a good job of matching the different versions of the same contact, and combining them on my phone - pat doe - patty doe

-Issue two: seperate the 2 facebook contacts into unique contacts. I understand that it then may be hard to match the name to the gmail contact, but I'm hoping whatever matches up the facebook and gmail contacts can also match by email.

-Issue three: match Amanda vs Mandi. I'm hoping whatever matches up the facebook and gmail contacts can also match by email.

I can seperate into 3 questions if that's preferred, but they're closely releated (or it seems that way).

Thanks.

I am really glad I could help. I spend a lot of time researching & gathering "How To" information like this. It makes it feel like less of a waste of time when it helps others too. – Cathleen Feb 6 at 4:32

Issue one I can help immediately. Issues 2 & 3 I will have to go through my files & look. At least one of them "rings a bell"

For the 1st Issue: I am assuming you are using the native program for contacts.

  1. Go to Phone > Contacts
  2. Click on the contact that you want to separate
  3. Click Menu > Edit Contact
  4. Click Menu > Separate
  5. You will want to answer yes to separate each contact as an individual.
  6. Then you can follow the above steps, except at step 4 click Join to put back together any separated parts that belong together. It takes a little tinkering to get used to but works.

I will look in my files to check the Facebook issues, but off the top of my head I don't think there is much flexibility with the Facebook. Except that it should separate through contacts the same way. If that is correct you can probably Join them too like you want. I can only check my files. I can't test that theory on my phone because I no longer have facebook linked to my contacts. I didn't want all that mixed in with my contacts.

The few I did want I copied/pasted the info from the facebook portion into the matching gmail contact before removing all the Facebook Contact Info. Since I am assuming that it is no more than a couple of names you want to merge, if the above does not work then I know copy/paste does ;o)

Hope this helps. - Cathleen
