I'm curious why there's a bounty on this with so many answers. Does SA have a file manager that we need to throw up here so you can choose that? :-P – Stevoni Oct 19 at 23:45

No (though I am developing one), I just want to let the community through voting decide which is the best. – Isaac Waller Oct 20 at 0:16

I think Linda File Manager is perhaps the best file manager for the Android operating system. I'd go as far as saying from what I've tried thus far, it IS the de facto file manager for the Android. I'm a little surprised it's not included in the third party roms as it's one of the first things I download.

It supports copy/paste/delete file, folder creation and renaming of both files and folders. Unfortunately, a user can perform havoc on their system if they mess with some of the files inside of there.

I use Astro right now, its supposed to be "Beta" and right now its Free, but its going to be paid soon, sadly, i think its better than Linda, personally.

Last time I checked ASTRO out it was Bender and haven't looked at it until now. You're right, it is very nice and crisp. It's unfortunate that it'll become paid: so far I haven't seen any reason I would pay for it, otherwise I would give back to the developer. – Stevoni Oct 6 at 22:41

I completely agree, but ive been using it right after it switched from Bender, so ive had time to get attached to it haha but maybe its time for me to get used to Linda, its definitely my second choice. – FckingAllen Oct 7 at 19:59
I used ASTRO today and found that it can't copy folders or files. I was very disappointed because I like the GUI much more than Linda. – Stevoni Oct 9 at 23:45

To me, the best is Estrongs File Explorer. It can even access network shares and is free.

Linda File Manager (LFM) and ASTRO are generally considered the best.

OI File Manager is another often used app.

(ASTRO has been in "free beta" for over a year now. The sliding expiry dates seem to be there to force people to update to the latest version. I've been using it for 11 months with no threat of expiry or a paid version).
