Has any non-root Android screenshot application been submitted to Android Developer Challenge 2? If so, what is its name?

I seem to have read about such a tool but I am no longer able to track the reference, and it didn't mention the name anyway. I do know that root privileges are required for this. But that application supposedly does not require a rooted device because it is able to get enough root privileges through some sort of Bluetooth loophole. If so, it is likely to depend on specific operating system versions.

There is one, and it made it to Round 2. It's called Drocap. Very little info about it online. The speculation, though, is that while it does not require a rooted phone, it does take advantage of an exploit to gain root access. Here's some discussion of it.

Thanks for the info. The lack of built-in, non-root screen capture functionality is a major Android design oversight. – Paolo Amoroso Nov 10 at 17:13
Yup, I definitely agree. – Chuck Nov 10 at 17:38
That's quite concerning, an app that gets root access without permission? Although I suppose (as I'm using Cyan 4.2.1 which is based off 1.6) that it's jejune but still, it's still worrying that quite a few of the new phones are only being shipped with 1.5 and won't be upgraded until 2.0 gets released. – efan78 Nov 10 at 19:34

Hi Paulo, I must admit I haven't heard of any non-root screenshot apps (even in ADC2), from what I understand from the Android Developers group etc... it's something that can't be done because of the way that Android was built, it needs the root permissions.

Although I'm sure if someone else has heard of it they'll shout up!
