I would like larger widgets as an option. I have shortcut some contacts and they seem proportionally small on the screen. i.e. there is a lot of space between them. On my Omnia SPB Mobile Shell offered many widget options, size and text.

Are you looking for some suggestions of large widgets you can download, or a way to control the size of widgets that fit in a particular space?

I think you're asking the 2nd question, and I'm afraid there's no way to adjust that (as far as I know).

About Widgets:

As of Android SDK 1.6, the developers are limited to having the size of their widgets (and its components) pre-defined. This means that users cannot alter widget appearance (e.g. re-size them or change font sizes, etc.) on-the-fly.

Most widget developers get around this limitation by offering multiple widgets of various sizes, such as 1x1 which takes up a single icon on the home screen all the way up to 4x4 that takes up an entire screen.

About shortcuts:

On the default Android Home app each screen consists of a 4x4 grid giving you space for up to 16 shortcuts. There is currently no way for end-users to customize this. However, there are many Home replacement applications that offer greater customization and personalization options. Some of the examples are aHome, OpenHome, SweeterHome, and dxTop.

These replacement apps vary in terms of their feature set, performance, and bugginess so I suggest giving them all a try to see which best suits your needs. You can have multiple Home replacement apps installed at the same time on your phone and switch between them with the press of the phone's "Home" button.

Sweeter home allows a bit more flexibility with sizing and placing widgets in the Preview 2 release which is hopefully scheduled to drop before 2010. – Lemon Nov 17 at 22:22
