I have noticed everytime a new phone comes out someone or a group of people develop a ROM for the G1 and mytouch. I really want the Xperia X10 but the price point scares me. So my question is when that phone comes out will someone create a ROM?

I'll be just as happy with a ROM.

Difficult to say for sure, bet I bet someone will definitely try. G1's hardware might not be up to par for running X10's UI, so those ROMs might be very laggy.

Unfortunately I think this will be the trend for all future phones. The fact that those flashy new UIs are usually proprietary (read: closed source) means that the community devs will not be able to optimize them to run on older hardware. At best they will port them to run on G1s and MT3Gs, but those ROMs will not run well.

Personally, I'm more than happy to continue using my G1 with stock OS (properly cyanogenized of course.) I just wish HTC/T-Mobile/Google/whoever hurry up and upgrade them to 2.x.

Rogers not updating the Dream, but the Magic to 2.x is a bad sign for 2.x on the G1, so I wouldn't bet on it being updated. – Isaac Waller Jan 11 at 5:49
Thats unfortunate because I really just want the UI off the X10. If it doesn't cost too much then the Snapdragon processor would be cool to have too. Thanks for the insight I guess I better start saving. – Slinky1914 Jan 11 at 15:10

Yeah from what I've heard the x10 is going to be not much less than $1000. As to 2.x on the G1, there was some discussion at the Nexus One announcement that made it sound like certain elements of 2.x will be made available via the Market, but that the G1 will not get the OS upgrade due to graphics processing limitations. They didn't quite come out and say that, but that's what I took away from it. – Chuck Jan 11 at 15:56

The only real thing that interests me from 2.x is the framework, so that things like syncing multiple GMail/FB/whatever accounts, native TTS, advanced search, tighter GV integration, etc. work like they should. Bells and whistles (animated wallpapers, higher resolutions, useless widgets, etc.) they can rip right out. – Chahk Jan 11 at 17:18
I can really careless about the multiple account sync and all the other stuff, except animated wallpaper cause I know that I will not use the stuff. I love my G1 the way it is. Fast with a good amount of RAM. – Slinky1914 Jan 14 at 13:53
