I there a way to do a screen capture on the Android devices? I have a HTC Hero, but have been unable to find any info as to whether this is possible or not.

Hello

You must install eclipse and use ddms plugin.

If you have root access, there are a couple apps that will let you take screenshots. No eclipse needed.

PicMe

I prefer PicMe but it's worth having both.

Again, tho, they'll only work on a rooted phone.

@Chuck You can edit your post to remove the part about USB - click the edit link beside flag and delete. – Isaac Waller Oct 17 at 6:11

You don't need a USB cable to use PicMe, furthermore it allows to see a live image of the device. Though this is true you need a rooted phone. You don't with DDMS (link in first answer) but in this case you need a USB cable.

Ah, you're right. Sorry for the bad info about PicMe. Not sure where I got that idea. – Chuck Oct 17 at 4:24

There is one more also, the dev of picme made another app called shootme. you still need root access to use it though, but you can take the screenshots straight from your device.

I cam across an app called DroidCap in ADC2. It allows screen captures, on phone, without root access. It is not yet available, but I'd imagine it should be soon, so keep an eye out.
